Incense has been used since ancient times in many cultures around the world, and its composition and types differ from one culture to another according to the available ingredients and different uses.


The basic components of incense consist of wood, herbs, and natural oils. These ingredients differ according to the geographical region and the culture in which they are used. For example, in the Middle East, oud, frankincense, and myrrh are used, and some other herbs and oils are added to give different scents.


In Indian culture, various herbs such as cinnamon, cardamom and turmeric are used, and some natural oils such as rose oil, almond and coconut oil are added.


In Chinese culture, a variety of herbs and oils are used, such as sandalwood, amber, musk, and jasmine flower.


In Japanese culture, kadi, green incense, and red incense are used, and some herbs and oils are added to enhance different scents.


Incense is used in many religious occasions, ceremonies, and social events. It is manufactured in different ways in every culture. It is noted that the composition and type of incense reflect the heritage and history of the culture from which it comes.
